Chris Smart has an impressive depth and breadth of knowledge of the outdoors and in particular, of skiing. With over 30 years experience in the Snowsports industry, Chris has become experienced and proficient in four major ski disciplines: alpine, back country, telemark and cross country or nordic skiing. Along with skiing Australia - primarily in NSW - Chris skis Japan and is a Back Country Ski Guide in Hokkaido. Better known as ‘Smartie’ to his friends and colleagues, Chris is a long time ski tourer with plenty of back country experience including winter camping - a testament to his passion for winter sports. Smartie is also an accomplished ‘citizen racer’ and a well respected member of the Nordic community.
A current Level Three APSI Instructor, Chris’s teaching experience from the mini mites to the senior masters. His ongoing pursuit of new teaching techniques throughout years of instructing keeps him “fresh” and motivated to share all he knows about skiing. A Diploma in Outdoor Recreation completes his suite of teaching techniques allowing Chris to refine some of his many skills including: Snow Survival, Back Country Navigation and Trip and Tour Planning backed up with a solid set of decision making tools; essential for back country safety and enjoyment.
Not always serious, Smartie creates a fun, relaxed and energetic group dynamic and comes back with a smile on his face as do the people who spend time with this capable and experienced ski and outdoor instructor.
